On July 31, 2024, Germany’s Schaeffler Group announced that its newly developed TriFinity™ wheel end bearing has been shortlisted for the "Components & Innovative Technologies" award at Automechanika Frankfurt 2024 (International Trade Fair for Automotive Parts, Equipment and Services). As the world’s first three-row ball bearing, it adopts a unique face spline structure design. Compared with traditional double-row ball bearings, it reduces friction loss by 15% and extends service life by 30%, making it suitable for both new energy vehicles (NEVs) and conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
The bearing can withstand higher axle loads through its three-row ball design, while reducing weight and noise. It can increase the driving range of NEVs by approximately 5% and reduce carbon emissions of fuel-powered vehicles. Jens Schüler, CEO of Schaeffler’s Vehicle Lifecycle Solutions division, stated that this innovation reflects the strategic direction of "driving the development of a sustainable mobility ecosystem through technological progress." The product will be exhibited at the trade fair held from September 10 to 14, 2024, and the final award results will be announced at the opening ceremony.
